Until a week ago I had no idea it was a thing. For the unenlightened, it’s a game of golf you play with Frisbees. Like golf, you can purchase a whole caddy of discs that are the equivalent of every club from a driver to a putter.

I stumbled across disc golf in a park, watched a handful of people playing it and HAD to give it a go.

Luckily, my younger brother Aaron shares my love for trying new things. A few days later we met at an 18-hole course on a cloudy day with a couple of old Frisbees I dug out of my garage.

The adventure began. We carefully avoided others on the course who were approaching their game with the reverence of pro golfers. (Turns out there is a Professional Disc Golf Association and the game has been around since the early 1900s.)

In our “game” there was no scoring, ceremony or professionalism. Our Frisbees went everywhere. Recovering them from high tree branches and on the wrong side of fences was at least as fun as the game.

As Mae West said, “When choosing between two evils (fun things to do?) I always like to try the one I’ve never tried before.”
